Upekkha Yan Liu is a writer, poet, and Buddhist practitioner in the Thai Forest Tradition. Having lived and written across China, the Netherlands, Singapore, and now the countryside of North Yorkshire, UK, her prose and poetry explore mindfulness, nature, displacement, social issues, and the body's wisdom—translating embodied experience into form through a daily ritual of writing, walking, and meditation.
She views her craft not as a pursuit of worldly milestones, but as a messy, joyful, and rigorous path of practice—one that demands the courage to stand naked before the truth of our lives and the earth. From this foundation of practice, she is dedicated to empowering women to use writing as a tool for healing and communal connection.
Before devoting herself to writing, she worked for decades on creative community building, entrepreneurship, social change, and connecting diverse cultures across Asia and Europe.
Her essay “Cold,” winner of the Bluebell Literary Magazine Environmental Exploration contest, emerged from her commitment to revision and daily immersion in the forest. She is currently working on her first autobiographical novel, Let Her Go Wild.
